| Chlorine DDPD Test Kit | New Applications for Chlorine DDPD Test Kit
Food & Beverage and Water Treatment Industries Benefit From Simple, Accurate Tests CHEMetrics, Inc. announced two new applications for its proprietary DDPDTM Chlorine Test Kits. Through work with the Food & Beverage and Water Treatment industries, CHEMetrics has fulfilled specific testing requirements for these two markets. Food & Beverage processing facilities maintain chlorinated “dump tanks” in which food is immersed before processing. This practice serves to disinfect the outer skin, which prolongs shelf-life. Cooling Tower water treatment specialists inject chlorine into the cooling water system to prevent both microbial growth, and macrofouling (cooling system deposits formed by multi-celled organisms). Both of these applications demand simple, accurate, and fast on-site testing of chlorine. CHEMetrics DDPD reagent is derived from the well-known DPD chemistry. DDPD reagent is less susceptible to low-level chromate interferences—an important feature to cooling tower technicians. In addition, the DDPD chemistry lends itself to superior color matching during visual quantitation. To perform a test, the user snaps off the tip of an ampoule below the surface of the sample. When the tip is broken, the sample is automatically drawn into the ampoule, where it reacts with DDPD reagent and forms a blue-violet color. Color intensity is directly proportional to the concentration of chlorine in the sample. Testing can be performed in about one (1) minute, with detection limits as low as 20 parts-per-billion (ppb). High range tests can measure chlorine up to 5000 parts-per-million (ppm). Test kits are available for either visual or instrumental analysis, with results expressed as free or total chlorine (Cl2). CHEMetrics Chlorine DDPD Kits are specially formulated for stability, resistance to interferences, and safe disposal. For more information, contact: |

Peracetic Acid Test Kit
1-Minute Visual Test Simplifies Routine Analysis for Food & Beverage Processing and Pulp & Paper Industries This unique kit, designed with plant professionals in mind, greatly simplifies analytical procedures by using CHEMetrics' patented technology-the self-filling ampoule. According to CHEMetrics, Inc.'s Vice President of Marketing and Technical, Henry B. Castañeda, "Development of this kit was influenced by plant professionals world wide. They wanted a fast, accurate peracetic acid test kit, and we've provided it. " Each ampoule contains a unit dose of liquid reagent sealed under vacuum, which eliminates the need to measure and mix chemicals, simplifies testing, and practically eliminates reagent spoilage. To perform a test, the sample is treated with an excess of potassium iodide-peracetic acid, if present, oxidizes the iodide to iodine. The user then snaps off the tip of an ampoule below the surface of the sample. When the tip is broken, the sample is automatically drawn into the ampoule, where the iodine then oxidizes DDPD, a methyl-substituted form of DPD (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) to form a purple colored species that is directly proportional to the peracetic acid concentration in the sample. Analytical test results are measured visually with a color comparator. Testing range is 0-5 ppm with a detection limit of 0.05 ppm. Total testing time is one minute. Peracetic Acid is used widely in the Food & Beverage Industry as a sanitizing agent. It is used to disinfect equipment, pasteurizers, tanks, pipelines, evaporators, fillers, and contact surfaces in food processing plants, dairies, breweries, and wineries. In many cases, peracetic acid is preferred over chlorine in beverage plants because it does not emit toxic byproducts or affect the taste of the beverage. The Pulp & Paper Industry uses peracetic acid as a delignification and bleaching agent. For more information, contact:

Chlorine Dioxide Test Kit
1-Minute Visual Test Simplifies Chlorine Dioxide Analysis This unique test kit was developed due to the growing acceptance
of chlorine dioxide throughout the water treatment industry. According
to the Drew Industrial Division of Ashland Chemical Company, "Chlorine
dioxide is emerging as a capable alternative to chlorine. Its increased
use is being seen in many oxidative and disinfectant applications, which
traditionally have been handled with chlorine." (Drew Principles of Industrial
Water Treatment (1994). Drew Industrial Division, Ashland Chemical Company,
Boonton, NJ.)
